Kid-Sized Space Knowledge Nuggets!

          Space: Part 1

Today, I’m going to talk about space. So, what is space? Space refers to the universe beyond our atmosphere. The universe encompasses everything that exists, including planets, stars, and galaxies. Many scientists support the Big Bang theory, which suggests that the universe was created approximately 13.73 billion years ago due to a massive explosion known as the "Big Bang." Before the Big Bang everything in the universe was contained in a hot and dense state called the " Planck Epoch ".After the Big Bang, the universe began to expand and it's still expanding today. The Milky Way is the name of the galaxy we live in today.

Fun Fact: Did you know the Milky Way is 100,000 light in diameter? The universe is filled with stars. Stars are massive balls of plasma ( Plasma is a kind of hot gas) that are held together by gravity ( gravity is when objects of a smaller are pulled towards objects of a larger mass). Planets are objects that orbit around the sun. The sun is one of the billion stars in the Milky Way, the sun is located 92,957,130 miles ( 149.600,000 kilometers) away from the earth. The core of the sun can reach temperatures up to 27,000,000 °F ( 15,000,000°C ), the sun's surface is called the photosphere. The photosphere can reach temperatures up to 9,930°Fthat equals to 5,500°C.

Fun Facts: Did you know that the sun is about 1,400,000 times the size of Earth? Fun Fact number two: Did you know that the sun is below-average the size of a star? The corona and outer atmosphere can only be seen on the solar eclipse ( the solar eclipse happens about every 18 years). There are two types of solar eclipses. First is the partial solar eclipse, the partial solar eclipse is when the moon covers only part of the moon. Second is a total eclipse, a total eclipse is when the moon covers the entire sun. We have eight planets in our solar system, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. We have five main dwarf planets ( A dwarf planet is too small to be a real planet), Pluto, Ceres Makemake, Eris, and Haumea.

Space is an amazing place so learn anything you'd like, there are a million things left to discover about space! I hope you enjoyed my article! Until next time, Bye!
